Throughout the year, you can find us at a large selection of Farmers Market’s across Northern Alberta.
We are excited to see you again during the 2024 Fruit Season!
*Please note, due to this years frost there are NO B.C. Apricots, Peaches, Nectarines and most Plums.
*Unfortunately this year, some markets are openly allowing vendors to sell U.S. produce after previous years of food fraud and reselling U.S. produce marked/implied as B.C. with no recourse - We have updated which markets below are allowing U.S. produce this season.
Why does this matter:
US produce is less expensive when wholesaled and the farmer is not known. Vendors will mark up prices to meet BC small batch prices, or undercut to make a sale. Selling you subpar older produce that you can purchase for less in a Brick and Mortar Store. Taking home more than the actual farmers and vendors who are in integrity.
US produce has different growing practices and regulations than Canada. Sprays for pests and practices to keep produce looking fresh when it is not. When it crosses the boarder it is fumigated or irradiated. Purchasing Canadian, in season fruit is first and foremost for nutrition.
It leaves the door open to continue to commit food fraud in future years.
Current vendors that do farm, knew of the frost in January 2024. They had the opportunity to connect with Ontario farmers.
CFIA has fined a fruit vendor in the Edmonton area working with an Edmonton wholesaler for food fraud in 2024.
Some vendors are bringing in U.S. Produce that wasn’t affected by the frost.
